ALZETA receives DOE Technology of the Year Award
SANTA CLARA, CA ( March 1, 2000 ) ALZETA Corporation received the prestigious “Technology of the Year” award from the U.S. Department of Energy, Office of Industrial Technology for its Pyrocore HT™ technology. ALZETA was selected by the OIT from a very competitive field representing the very best achievements from literally hundreds of OIT partners and supported technologies. Finalists for the award included jint nominees Versol, Inc., Argonne National Laboratories, and Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) and Whyco Technologies, Inc. ALZETA’s Chairman, Dr. Robert M. Kendall, received the award at an awards presentation in Washington, D.C. from Denise Swink, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the US Department of Energy and Director of the Office of Industrial Technology.
ALZETA uses its Pyrocore HT™ technology in its burners for exhaust gas abatement systems in the semiconductor industry and residential, commercial and industrial heating systems. OIT sponsored the creation of ALZETA’s high temperature radiant burner so that the high efficiency, low emission, even heating benefits of this technology could be used in higher temperature industrial heating applications. Among ALZETA’s many OEM partners that benefit by this technology are:
BOC Edwards: Thermal Processing Unit (TPU) uses the Pyrocore HT burner to abate process gases commonly used in the manufacture of semiconductor devices. The TPU significantly reduces the Environmental Health and Safety impacts of using these gases, keeps facility maintenance to a minimum, and is capable of reducing the emissions of Global Warming Gases by 90% - 98%. Thermal Solutions (Burnham Corporation): Evolution uses the Pyrocore HT burner in a commercial hydronic boiler to achieve high efficiency operation (88% compared to an industry standard of 84% or less) and ultra low emissions (10 – 20 ppm NOx, more than meeting the stringent requirements of California’s South Coast AQMD).
Nuovi Sistemi Termotecnici (NST): SOGNO uses the Pyrocore HT burner to heat water in a high efficiency, wall-hung boiler that produces both hydronic heat and potable water for residential applications. While wall-hung boilers are fairly rare in the US, these units are much more common in Europe and the rest of the world. NST’s SOGNO boiler available in Italy and the UK, delivers efficient operations (87%), and ultra low NOx emissions (10 – 20 ppm), less than half the “Class 5” European Standard (EN 483).
